It's Okay

It’s Okay is a physical and digital awareness campaign that is focused around the misconceptions of depression and anxiety disorders.

The Issue

There are many stigmas associated with depression and anxiety, making it difficult for people to talk about and understand. Because there are so many different ways anxiety and depression manifest their symptoms, there’s a general lack of understanding and ignorance surrounding what exactly these disorders are. The society we live in does not provide a comfortable environment for people to foster conversations or speak openly because they are seen as weak diseases that aren’t significant, especially compared to other mental disorders.

The Solution

Start a conversation about depression and anxiety that challenges perceptions and provides approachable information and resources.

We chose to direct our campaign toward WWU students because extensive research revealed that many college students either suffer from or are interested in learning more about these disorders.

It’s Okay was developed into a comprehensive campaign because we wanted to reach as many students as possible. Saturating both the physical and digital realm we produced a wide range of materials that exposed how depression and anxiety affects people’s lives daily. By creating such a variety we gave students the opportunity to experience the content in more intimate ways so they could be more comfortable with these subjects.

Team

The campaign was created from a design workshop led by Civilization’s Michael Ellsworth. Working alongside Amelia Barlow and Taylor Mattson It’s Okay has continued to develop into full fruition.

Skills

Research, ideation, branding, print, photography and mock-ups.

Process

Developing the Problem

We had to come to an understanding of what the issue is and why it’s a problem. In order to do that we researched into who experiences these disorders.

Forming the Solution

Involved multiple processes of ideating in addition to researching what has and hasn’t been successful in creating awareness around these disorders.

Creating + Delivering an RFP

As part of our workshop we had to create an RFP to present to our client. In this process we developed three different concepts and thoroughly explained why this is an important issue. You can find our RFP here.

Strategy

After deciding on a concept we researched competitors and began cultivating a strategy that would make our campaign successful at WWU.

Brand Development

Developing a strong and consistent brand was a high priority. We wanted to saturate our market with material and therefore it needed to be easily identifiable.

Curating Content + Materials

Once the brand was solidified we began creating the materials. Working together we produced a multitude of deliverables.
